bmurator German Black Metal. Full of darkness & intensely epic in both sound & vocals. It is sung in German which certainly helps & full of contrasts. The wonderful melodies versus the sometimes incredibly harsh vocals. This is an extremely well put together album & benefits from an awsome sound & production. Not sure why there are so few people here... :) Highly recommended!!!

H.L. Majestic pathos, epic songwriting, a lot of variation, especially in the vocals, and a heavy, organic sound turn "Erwachen" into one of the best German black metal albums of the recent past. Most tracks are atmospheric killers and very intense experiences. Check for example "Alles geht dahin" or "Erwache". I can also approve the long-time impact of the album as I'm still not tired listening to it. Masterpiece! Favorite track: Erwache.

I missed my Avantgarde subscription, and had to re-up when I saw so many quality recent albums on the label. Argenthorns was one of my favorite discoveries last year. I expected them to find a wider audience, and I encourage you to give this album a listen. Symphonic but also fierce and aggressive, The Ravening does everything right for its genre. The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. Melodic Black Metal from the U.K. but with a clear frosty feel of the Scandinavian acts. Very nice post-production, giving it that clear and distinct sound, whereby also the drums and bass are heard well, with lots of amazing guitar work, with the throaty vocals on top, with a very consistent performance all along. The album has that sinister, dark vibe, good tempo changes, and the songs are varied, keeping things flowing and interesting! Thank you to all those who took the time to review it! sachavonkarl74
